Headaches & Dehydration -- Importance of Water

"What is the most common cause of minor, achy, headaches?  Dehydration.  So before automatically popping a pain reliever, try drinking some water instead.

Most people are dehydrated.  We really need to drink a lot more water than we normally do.  Carry around a water bottle in your car or keep one on your desk at work to remind yourself that you need to drink!!  I usually recommend drinking between 1 to 2 liters a day, but that depends on whether or not you are exercising, sweat a lot or are just sitting around.

If you drink a lot of coffee or caffeinated beverages, then you need to drink a little more water than usual.  I also recommend putting some electrolytes in your water to help keep your minerals in balance.  There are various packaged electrolyte products on the market to add to your water that taste good.

Another way to add a little flavor to your water is to make herbal iced tea.  Get some herbal, non-caffeinated tea and put a few bags in a water container and let them steep in the refrigerator for about 15 to 20 minutes.  Remove the tea bags and you have some nice tasting, cold herbal-flavored water.  By the way...this is a great way to get kids to drink water!"
