Are you trying to change
something but are afraid?
When
we are trying to lose weight,
stop smoking, leave a partner
or some other major change in
our lives we have an
underlying fear about what
will happen if we do change.
What instigates us to change?
Here is a
principle formula for change:
"When the pain of staying the
same becomes greater than our
perceived fear of change then
change will occur."
So...on one
side of the equation we have are
current situation(s) and
issue(s). When whatever
situation we are in becomes
too painful to stay in, then
we will be motivated to change. We wont
worry about what might happen
when we change. Our pain will
be too great to stay where we
are at...so we will change. I
tell patients this when they
are trying to lose weight or
change their diet. We really
have to be mentally ready to
change.
I cant
force someone into changing
their lives, but when they
come into see me usually they
have a desire...at least at
some level...for change. I can help them
better understand the real
issues they are having (ie;
explain the pains and health
issues of their status quo) as
well as deal with the other
end of the equation.
That being, I can help them
reduce the fear of
changing from their current
situation or status quo.
Are you
sick and tired of being sick
and tired? Are you ready to make a
change? |
