but to be well."

The selected Health Tip is summarized below.  An audio clip of the tip as presented by Dr. Leah on the Chat With Women radio show is available at the end of the tip.

Anxiety - An all too common and troubling problem

"Are you having a lot of anxiety?

It's a very common problem and can lead to heart palpitations, chest tightness and shortness of breath.  These signs are similar to someone having heart problems and often times it's only from anxiety.

There are many different reasons for anxiety.  The most common causes are stress from some major event going on in your life; worry; sleep problems; blood sugar problems; thyroid problems and adrenal problems to name a few.

There are some good herbs to try if you are having anxiety.  One is Theanine.  Theanine is actually an amino acid and is sometimes referred to as L-theanine.  Theanine increases GABA in the brain which is a very calming neurotransmitter.  Most of the anti-anxiety drugs on the market increase GABA to calm anxiety.  Theanine does this too and is from a natural source.  You can also take GABA by itself.  Kava Kava is an herb that has long been used to calm anxiety.

You can find Theanine and Kava Kava at a supplement shop.  However, I recommend that you obtain a doctors guidance prior to attempting to treat yourself for anxiety.

Chamomile tea or SleepyTime tea as well as deep breathing and exercise can also be helpful to become calmer."
