In
thinking about this week's
health tip, I realized that I
have never done one on eye
health.
We dont think about the
health of our eyes that much
unless you have problems with
them. Have you ever thought
about what nutrients are good
for the eyes?
Lutein is a yellow or orange
pigment that is found is some
vegetables and fruits and is
concentrated in the retinas of
the eyes. It is necessary for
good vision. A diet rich in
lutein can lower your risk for
developing cataracts or
macular degeneration.
Blueberries, bilberries and
other dark berries are also
very good for the eyes and can
help with night vision by
helping the eyes to adjust to
the light faster and also
decrease risk for cataracts.
Vitamin A is also good for
night vision.
Omega 3 fatty acids in your
diet reduce the risk for
developing dry eyes. These
fats are found primarily in
fish and flax.
Soaking chamomile tea bags and
placing them on the eyes when
cool helps reduce swelling
around the eyes.
Hope these tips help you keep
your eyes more healthy! |
